After a super blood moon eclipse provided a rare visual feast on May 26, the stage is now set for an annular solar eclipse, also known as the "ring of fire," on June 10.
A solar eclipse happens when the moon moves between the sun and Earth, casting a shadow on Earth, fully or partially blocking the sun’s light in some areas. During an annular eclipse, the moon is far away from the Earth, in a way that the moon appears smaller than the sun.
Since the moon does not block the entire view of the sun, it looks like a dark disk on top of a larger, bright disk. This creates what looks like a ring of fire around the moon, according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
The annular eclipse will start in Canada and end in a remote part of Russia.
A partial solar eclipse will be seen in western China, parts of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, northern Heilongjiang Province, and northeastern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is the only solar eclipse that can be observed in China in 2021.
Experts suggest it's important to wear proper eye gear when viewing the solar eclipse to protect one’s eyes from burns.
